Why wind?

Wind turbines are typically rated at a wind speed of 12 m/s (approximately 43 kmh). This is the wind speed at which the turbine is designed to produce its maximum power output. However, turbines are also designed to operate within a range of wind speeds, with a cut-in speed (the minimum speed for power generation) usually around 3-4 m/s (11-15 kph) and up to 25 m/s (90 kph)

The global average wind speed is approximately 3.3 m/s (11.9 kph) which means that most of the time the wind is too slow for conventional wind turbines to generate energy!

WOOSH’s CR VAWT Savonius Tubs can start generating energy at 1.4 m/s (5 kmh), so while other wind turbines are stationary our CR VAWTs are feeding energy into the grid!

Contra Rotating Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (CR VAWTs), Patent 2023270291

Solar delivers it’s rated output for 30 minutes per day, between 11.45am and 12.15 midday. As per the graph (top l/h above) it’s harvest of energy is less than 4 hours a day, and is less as the sun is lower in the sky and worst in winter. This is why you need large batteries to hold that energy for use during the remaining 20 hours. Wind turbines can deliver 24/7, and with WOOSH’s CR VAWT S Range you get energy whenever the wind is over 1.4m/s!

Solar needs a lot of room, and Batteries. Horizontal Axis Winb Turbines (HAWTs) need lots of room!

Both need expensive distribution infrastructure!

WHY CR VAWTs from WOOSH?

In 2021 the Asian Development Bank sponsored research to determine the best energy solution for this region, their answer:

“Instead of promoting HAWTs, VAWTs should be introduced to Asian countries, where they could also be used in hybrid energy systems with continuous sources of power generation such as hydro dams, and with other intermittent types of renewable energy like solar panels to address their individual intermittency.”

CR VAWTs have:

MORE ENERGY: CR VAWT’s patented contra rotating upper and lower helical blade arrays cause the rotor to spin clockwise and the stator to spin counterclockwise to double the apparent wind speed.
LESS NOISE: Slower blade speed negates noise and vibrations allowing the CR VAWT to be sited in populated areas which lowers infrastructure costs.
LESS FATALITIES: Cylindrical shape of a CR VAWT can be identified by flying fauna which lessens fatalities.
LOWER COSTS: Our patented blade manufacturing process allows blade manufacturing at 35% of the cost of traditional blades with a constant shape allowing lower maintenance costs, increased service life and reliability.
MORE RELIABLE: Patented ‘Farste Drive’ is more cost effective to manufacture than traditional generators and 9 times more reliable.
LESS COMPONENTS: CR VAWTs are omnidirectional therefore don’t have a slewing motor/gearbox.
INDESTRUCTIBLE: CR VAWTs can’t over-run and self-destruct as per conventional Wind Turbines (HAWTs).
NO NEW INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDED: CR VAWTs can be sited near housing and on buildings so can feed into existing energy distribution infrastructure.
